That's disappointing, but it sounds like maybe things worked out for the best. I've always been intrigued by that part of the world and its rich history, but a little daunted by the prospect of traveling there. A family member is a travel agent and invited me to go with her to Morocco this spring as part of a trial tour, which I was excited and leery about at the same time, but plans fell through. I give you a lot of credit for making the journey—and making the most of it!

Yes, things worked out, they usually do if we get out of our own way. I am for sure curious about that part of the world, I'd love to complete my trip. I'm fortunate and so glad I was able to travel when I did. I'd like to think that traveling with another is safer than solo, but these days I'm not so sure. Sorry your travel plans fell through this time. Thanks, J.M.!

That was a scary situation you faced. You made the right decision not to continue. Third world countries can be arbitrary in their policies. I am always nervous when crossing into Ciudad Juarez even though my wife grew up there. Soldiers with automatic weapons are always hanging around the inspection bays. We don't cross very often anymore. The drug cartels continue be an ominous presence. I always enjoy reading of your adventures, James.

I would think these last few years the border at El Paso would be a madhouse. I guess if you know how to stay in your lane, going over and back is ok. I'd like to road travel to Baja but not now. Thank you, K.C.

A frustrating turn of events, Ron, but you. made the most of it. On the road, we are thwarted in something nearly every day. Plans and itineraries don't always work out. You rolled with it, my friend! BTW, when I went to Algeria ( 1991 ) there were armed soldiers posted on every street corner in the city of Algiers, and relatively few people were out on the streets. I never asked why...

Yes, things happen. Changing plans almost become the norm when traveling. I was there in fall, 1974. That area of the world has always seemed unsettled. I think tribalism and family clans that go way back. Would have liked to have seen more, it was fascinating. Closest I'd been to seeing 3rd World daily life. Other than the soldiers, did you enjoy Algiers? Thanks, Sharron!

I went there to work for a week. I didn't get to see much. The poverty broke my heart. The people I met were lovely. Here is my most. memorable experience - I am thinking of re-posting it. Funny ... in hindsight.

You certainly are an adventurous traveler. I'm not sure I ever would have attempted a trip like that.

At the time, events were not like they are now. I never thought about being safe, now I do. Thank you, Jim!

You were YOUNG Ron, and invincible. I was, too, once, and always traveled solo. I wasn't brave, I was just naive, and had no fear. But now I am a big lacy-pants, and don't want to leave the safety of my home. It is natural, I suspect.

Those were the days, weren't they? Naivete goes a long way to getting one down the road if so inclined to travel. I still want to travel, but I don't think it will be abroad. Not even sure about Mexico. And, home is so comfortable. : )

Maybe I would have done it with a wing man.

Love your style, brother. Keep it up.

Wow! You have lived quite a life. Could you do something like that now?

Hi, Jim, thanks! When I was able to travel I did so. As to doing it now, well, the spirit is willing, but the body is questionable. : ) And times have changed.
