#159 - They were from Georgia. They lost everything when Sherman marched through during the Civil War. Their mother got sick and died. Their father went crazy and took off not to be seen again.
I did not have "Swarm of Locusts" on my bingo card. The hardships our forebears endured are all but forgotten in our time. Strange but they seemed to live happy and productive lives nonetheless.
Yes to living happy and being productive. There was much less should and shouldn't going around. Out of necessity and freer from increasing regulations that never end, they could jump on any opportunity before them and make a go of it. Thank you, Jim. : )
Wowee! What an epic story, Ron. Terrific. While i was reading I was thinking.... things are going FAR too well for these folks, as if they were charmed. My guess was that a fire was going to sweep through and change things drastically. Locusts never occurred to me.... Oh no!

They stuck their necks out, getting into debt, pledging their assets. Everything seemed to be working in their favor. Something had to come along and challenge them. Sure enough, Ron, you chose locusts. Things are getting interesting. Wonderful characters and an optimistic tone have drawn me into the story. Looking forward to part 2.

I really like this series. So many people know so little about the people who brought us the lifestyle we enjoy today.
